Actionable Steps: How to Build an Email List

Choose an Email Platform — I use and recommend Mailerlite, but there are lots of choices. Then get in and initially set-up your new platform.
Decide how often to Communicate — I recommend to send a newsletter at least once per month to get started. The key is consistency. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. You can always build on this later.
How will you ask for email addresses — Can you create a free resource that will be valuable - a quick-win - for your audience? Can you offer a coupon code? Are they joining your list for updates, new blog posts, new podcast episodes, etc.? Ask yourself the question, why should they subscribe?
Create an Opt-in Form — Build a form in your platform that will capture someone’s name (first and last is a great idea) and email address that they “opt in” to. You can then embed this form on your website or use the link it gives you that will open a webpage with your opt-in form for someone to sign up.
Promote it! — You need to actually ask people to sign up! Share it on your social channels or let people know where they can subscribe and what they’ll get. People won’t and can’t sign up if you don’t ask!
