My #1 Not-So-Secret Secret About Business Success

Most Common Business Problem: Finding more clients

The majority of clients and business owners I talk to that are working on growing their business is that they either have a difficult time finding new clients or getting leads.

Whether you are just getting started in your business, scaling, or starting your second business, there is one strategy I ALWAYS come back to that has, hands down, grown my businesses every single time.

My #1 Not-So-Secret Secret About Business Success

Disclaimer: It’s not sexy.

You may want to keep scrolling or say, “sure, but what else...” and continue searching for the answer. However, I 100% believe in this strategy to help you grow your business.

Here’s why:

Being an Introvert — if you are too, you get it — the hardest part is actually getting out of the house and doing it — I know.

Plus, you’ve probably been to a few events before where you were handed 100 business cards, pitched to, probably asked to join a few direct sales/network marketing companies, and left feeling anxious, exhausted, thinking it was a waste of time. Then, retreating home to curl up under the covers and back in your comfort zone...

Am I right?

That was my first experience with networking events too...

If you’re an extrovert, it’s probably a bit easier for you, fueling off the energy from the room and being around people. But, you also may have run into some of the same issues.

There is a RIGHT and WRONG way to network.

Networking is NOT about delivering your 30-second elevator speech and exchanging business cards, no is it about just finding clients. (These are benefits of doing it right, but not the point.)

Networking Is:

  • For building connections

  • For learning from each other

  • For finding support

  • For the sake of getting out of your house and away from your computer screen

  • For the coffee (at the very least 😉)

I’m not going to lie, I often bargain with my introverted self that if I go, at least I will have gotten out of my house, out of my comfort zone, and rewarded with coffee! ☕️

How to Network as an Introvert:

  1. Ask (in local Facebook groups or search on MeetUp.com, Eventbrite, etc.) for some favorite networking groups or events around your area.

  2. Register, get it on your calendar and decide on a reward for yourself. Most of the time, getting yourself to the event is the hardest part — celebrate yourself when you do!

  3. Start with 1 person — It can be overwhelming to get to an event and not know where to start with a room full of people.

    1. Tip: Find coffee first, then seek out ONE person, start up a conversation — simply ask them about their business, after all, that’s why they’re there.

  4. Set a Goal — Make it a goal to connect with 3-5 people (hell, even just ONE person). Talk with them, get their card or contact info and build a connection.

    1. Tip: Write on the back of their business card what you connected on, where you met them, and any other notes so you can remember later.

  5. Follow-up — When you get home, send a follow-up email to the people you connected with and ask them to coffee to connect more. (As an introvert, I love connecting with business owners one-on-one.)

The Goal is to build a connection

Find out what their goals are, what they are working on, who they work with and what they do.

BE A RESOURCE FOR EACH OTHER!

Most of the time, those connections turn into referrals, clients, and business! But don’t make that the ONLY goal. Connection is KEY!
